National Innovation and Start-up Policy
The ‘National Student and Faculty Startup policy 2019’ is a guiding framework to envision an educational system oriented towards startups and entrepreneurship opportunities for student and faculties. These guidelines will enable institutions to actively support their faculty, staff and students to participate in innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) related activities & managing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) ownership, technology licensing and equity sharing in Startups. This enabling creation of a robust innovation and Startup ecosystem. These guidelines will help to emphasize in creating a business, which is financially successful. India aspires to become 5 trillion-dollar economy by 2024. To reach the mark, it needs to evolve systems and mechanisms to convert the present demographic dividend into high quality technical human resource capable of doing cutting edge research and innovation and deep-tech entrepreneurship.

- To promote strong intra and institutional partnerships with ecosystem enablers and different stakeholders at regional, national, and international levels.
Short Term Goals
- To Organize Entrepreneurial activities like Hackathons, tech fests, idea innovation and competition, and startup entrepreneurship ecosystem boot camps.
- To make Students & Faculties work on Ideas leading to POCs/Prototypes
- To encourage faculty & students to pursue startup & entrepreneurship-related activities
- To define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Entrepreneurial Performance Impact Assessment.

- Institution to offer courses related to Innovation, Startups & I PR’s
- Institution to establish Incubation Units & Accelerators
- the incubator should be to create successful ventures through Incubators

Process & Implementation
- Allowing faculty to start Startup based on the technology developed in the lab at the institute
- Allowing faculty and staff to take off for a semester/year as sabbatical/unpaid leave/casual leave /earned leave for working on startup and come back
- In case faculty/staff is drawing a salary from the institute, the institute’s stake/equity in the startup is to be limited to 20 of the total share of faculty/staff or 9.5 of the total stake
